According to the Cambridge Dictionary the meaning of waiting is described as “to allow time to go by, especially while staying in one place without doing very much, until someone comes, until something that you are expecting happens or until you can do something.” A good example of waiting is my 8 year old son Dylan who was eagerly waiting for the start of the summer holidays and now strangely he is waiting for the end of his summer holidays to go back to school as he moves to a year up.
In life we all experience waiting. We either wait for a bus or train, we sometimes wait to see a doctor, and in some cases, we wait to hear or receive either the good news or bad news. But I think the most we all wait for is when we call a call centre regarding any of our bills and there is a recorded message which says you are number 10 or number so and so and you are made to listen to music. The ultimate one that everyone gets frustrated hearing is when we hear the message, we are experiencing a high volume of calls at this time. You have been placed in a queue and your wait time will be approximately 15 minutes. But then after 15 to 20 minutes you get disconnected. You feel angry and frustrated as you feel you have been waiting just for nothing. So basically, waiting is part of our lives. I think on the whole in our lives we spend a lot of time waiting for something or someone. Waiting is part and parcel of our lives. However sometimes this constant waiting makes us lose our cool.
One of my favourite verses from the Bible is from Micah 7:7 which says, “But as for me, I watch in hope for the Lord, I wait for God my Savior; my God will hear me.” I think sometimes God knows when the right time for us is. All through my life I have been blessed by God who has provided me with what I needed at the right time. Many a times I have lost all hope thinking its not going to happen. But when I least expect it, God has provided that one thing I thought was never going to happen. So, from my experiences I have now learnt that waiting patiently gets things done and that trusting in God will always help me as he will provide me with what I need in the rightful time. The one thing I have learnt in my life is when I wait patiently and expectantly even when the circumstances is really bad, God always has provided me with what I waited for when I least expected it.
I also love the verse from Matthew 7:7 which says, “Ask and it will be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will be opened to you.” This is a verse which has been so true in my life many times. When I have felt that all my waiting has been for nothing, God has surprised me in more ways than I could ever expect.
I would agree that waiting is not a fun thing. But please be patient and learn to wait as you maybe surprised with the various doors, experiences, adventures, and avenues you may be taken on and being led to by God.
So, wait patiently. Don't give up! Don’t stop believing! Stay full of hope and expectation. God's power is limitless, and He'll breakthrough for you.
