Truly Blessed

Numbers 6:24-26 says, “The Lord bless you and keep you; the Lord make his face to shine upon you and be gracious to you; the Lord lift up his countenance upon you and give you peace.”

Yesterday morning I had gone to my dentist to get a root canal treatment done. But unfortunately, when I got there to have my procedure, the dentist realised there were more complications and problems with that tooth and to make it worse the gum was ingrowing in between the roots. So, she gave me the choice of either removing the tooth completely or sending me to a specialist who could try and save the teeth. I decided that I was better off without the tooth as I could save all the pain and hassle, however it was at that moment that I also thought about the millions of people around the world who are suffering due to war, violence which has caused them to lose their limbs, their hands, their feet and in some case children who have lost even eye sight as they have been caught up in the war.

As I was sat in my dentist’s chair all I could thing about was the pain that all these people must be going through and the pain that I was undergoing. It struck me that these two different kinds of pain cannot be compared. It also made me to think of how grateful and thankful we all need to be of all the things in our lives that God has given us abundantly.

When things go wrong in our lives all we do is moan. But when we think of the people around the world who are in much greater pain than us, we need to be really thankful that we are blessed. We need to realise what a true blessing our life is and be grateful and thankful for all that God has provided for us in our lives.

Many a time in our lives when things go wrong, we turn around to God and ask him if he has forgotten us as we feel he has left us to suffer. Just because we are going through some bad times does not mean that God has forsaken us, and we are suffering. Sometimes it is the suffering, pain and sorrow that makes us stronger and accept that we are so blessed when we compare our lives with others.

Presently in UK their has been a hike of the energy bills which has caused a lot of anxiety, stress and even anger in almost all the households. Our electricity bill went up drastically which made me, and my husband Julian think quite a lot about it and wonder how we are going to run our household with just one income. The cost of living has increased greatly, and food prices have sky rocketed. However, we cannot be without eating or without heating our homes during the winter months. But we seriously need to think of ways to reduce our usage quite a lot. All this worries all of us, especially when we have children who depend upon their gadgets for their school work, home work as well as their play time.

The more time I spent thinking about it I realised how truly we are blessed and lucky as at least we have a roof above our heads and food to eat whereas there are many around the world who are refugees and have no homes and are like vagabonds trying to settle in a country and there are many others who are homeless and have not even a square meal to eat. I came to the conclusion that I have been truly blessed. My life is a true blessing as I am blessed by God in more ways than I can ever think of.

To conclude I think this verse from Luke 6:38 sums it all up for me, “Give, and it will be given to you. Good measure, pressed down, shaken together, running over, will be put into your lap. For with the measure you use it will be measured back to you.”
